Every other year she hosts an exhibition of her newer work in Papeete, Tahiti. Melanie Shook Dupre See artist statement About the artist Melanie lives and works in her local style house on the motu of Maeva, on the island of Huahine, in French Polynesia.
She pursued her artistic path quite naturally, intuitively focusing on oil painting as her primary medium. Her studio space is filled with visual delights running the gamut from printmaking to oil painting, and everything in between—Chinese brush sepia paintings, graphic works in ink, pencil and charcoals, gouache and watercolours, soft and oil Melanie shook dupre, and even a few acrylics.
Her paintings are visible in the finest art galleries of the Society Islands. Her artistic formation began in her earliest childhood, with her mother being an artist and art teacher.
Melanie was one of the first women to sit on the board of the prestigious Providence Art Club, founded inwhere she regularly exhibited her work. She studied Indian Dance, and she was transported by the perfumes and colours of this beguiling country.
Just south of the Equator, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Huahine is a voluptuous island covered with luxuriant vegetation and colourful flowers, encircled by a lagoon of infinite shades of blues, violets and aquas.
After an initial sojourn in Moorea and Tahiti induring which her artwork met with great success, Melanie returned to live in Huahine in Inspired by her immersion in the Polynesian lifestyle, her paintings reflect the unique world of the south seas—luscious still lifes of tropical fruits on local style calicos, portraits and genre paintings, landscapes and seascapes of sublime beauty.
Her family lived for two years in India when Melanie was around 10 years old. A warm welcome greets all visitors who stop by to have a look… Her work is available in the following galleries: Various techniques and mediums serve to keep her work fresh and evolving.
